For accompanying persons we are organizing a social program during the conference week. Every day we offer an interesting tour to Freiburg or its charming surroundings. We want you and your partner to make the most of your stay in Freiburg.  On Wednesday the social program is identical with the conference outing.

Monday: »Leisurely Tour of Freiburg«

Tour S1:  4 October 2010, Freiburg
Afternoon (1:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m.)

This city tour begins with a sparkling-wine reception in the historic vaulted cellar of Germany’s oldest inn “Zum Roten Bären.”

While walking at a leisurely pace through the city’s old town district, you will be regaled with fascinating stories about the city and some of its most famous residents. The walk will take you through narrow alleyways and past immaculately restored old buildings to the Freiburg cathedral with its exquisite architecture and medieval art treasures. The tour continues from here to the city park where you will board a modern cable railway for an ascent to the Dattler Restaurant located high atop a wooded hill above the city. Here, you will have an opportunity to enjoy a piece of famous Black Forest cake and a hot beverage while taking in a spectacular view that extends out over the city and the “Kaiserstuhl” to the Vosges mountains in France.

Tour S2: 5 October 2010, Black Forest
Morning/afternoon (9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.)

This tour offers you an opportunity to experience the highest water fall in Germany and the largest cuckoo clock in the world.

The tour begins with a bus ride of around 40 minutes to the Black Forest town of Triberg where the water of the Gutach River falls 163 meters in 7 cascades. An impressive experience for all the senses.

After viewing the waterfall, you will enjoy a typical Black Forest lunch at a 250-year-old Black Forest inn. Here, you are given an opportunity to take a journey through time and discover how travelers have been accommodated at inns throughout the past centuries.

The tour continues on to the site of the world’s largest cuckoo clock, which features an 8m pendulum weighing 100kg and a cuckoo that weighs 150kg. These unbelievable dimensions mean that you will be able to walk “into” the clock and view its various parts from up close.

Tour S3: 7 October 2010, Kaiserstuhl, Niederrotweil
Morning/afternoon (9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.)

This tour begins with an approximately 30-minute bus ride to the village of Niederrotweil.

Vineyard Safari

While enjoying an adventurous tractor ride through the vineyards, you will have an opportunity to learn from an expert about the unique winegrowing region known as the Kaiserstuhl.

Refreshment is then provided in the form of a genuine winegrower’s picnic with a selected variety of local wines.

After learning about viticulture, you will gain an insight into the various methods of wine production while taking a tour of a wine cellar. Vintner snacks will be on hand.
